Hawthorne is the county seat for Mineral County and has a population of about 3700. The Hawthorne Army Depot is the prime employer with nearby mining companies and local businesses providing additional employment. Hawthorne is a modern community with educational facilities which include a new primary school, elementary/junior high and high school, a community college, a new fire station, modern hospital, medical and dental offices, county library with a rose garden (shown above) and a courthouse. Hawthorne provides well rounded services for everyone with churches, restaurants, motels, gas stations, parks, grocery-hardware-clothing and automotive stores, newspaper, insurance agencies, real estate offices and recreational facilities for all ages. And is the gateway to Yosemite National Park.
