Schurz. Tribal headquarters for the Walker River Paiute Tribe, is located about 33 miles north of Hawthorne on US Highway 95. Found winding its way through the valley is Walker River which is formed in the high Sierra Nevada Mountain Range by two forks, East and West Walker Rivers, which joint together in upper Mason Valley then winds its way through Mason Valley and Schurz before reaching its destination at Walker Lake. Schurz is Mineral County's major farming district.
